KaHaL presents
Jewish Humor: Deeper Meanings
with Rabbi Charles Sherman

Wednesdays March 22 & 29
12:00pm

Free for Beth El Members
$10 for non-members

This class is a kind of gregarious family union which brings together disparate and dispersed relatives and guests of all ages and orientations. At the long and crowded dinner table, the wise men of Chelm and Hershele Ostroper swap jokes with the Marx Brothers and Mel Brooks. Sholom Aleichem, at the other end of the tables, pokes Philip Roth in the ribs, as the impertinent waiter, assisted by Sam Levenson, clears away the first course. Off in the corner, Larry David chats about Cossacks with Woody Allen, while at the back table Yankele the Schnorrer, reaching for a boiled potato for tomorrow's lunch, inadvertently spills his soup on Lenny Bruce, David Brenner, and Mrs. Maisel.

The class take-away is a portrait, both in anecdotes and "jokes" of a yet evolving Jewish culture to entertain, engage the world and celebrate "Doing Jewish".
